Pete Rock & CL Smooth Back Together For Montreal Stop [12.11.13]

Pete Rock & CL Smooth reunite for a tour which stops in Montreal at Cabaret Underworld on Tuesday, November 12th. Not only do we get to witness one of the finest rap groups hip hop has to offer, but we also get another dope duo, as the first part of the show will be performed by none other then Camp Lo.

After a 15 year hiatus, one of the most prolific hip-hop duos of the 90’s put aside their differences and reunited in 2010, beginning to tour again, namely on the Clean Energy Tour in California, as well as preparing a new album which we’ve been waiting for since it was announced late 2011.

Meanwhile this tour gives us a chance to reminisce on classic albums ranging from Mecca and the Soul Brother to The Main Ingredient.

And while Pete Rock did make his name in the 90’s, he obviously will never stop being relevant. In the past few years he produced a full length album for Smiff N Wessun (Monumental), and collaborated on a few tracks with popular new school artist Mac Miller.

He also collaborated earlier this year with Camp Lo on the excellent mixtape 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s Pt. II where the never dated sound of Pete Rock is on full display.

CL Smooth dropped a  couple  of solo length albums back in 2006-2007, but otherwise has been relatively quiet on the scene, preferring to allocate his time to valuable activism regarding climate change.

Needless to say, with one of the most revered beatsmiths on the decks, this might be one the best shows hitting the Montreal hip hop scene this year.
