Method Man at Club Soda [Review]

On January 9th I started off the New Year with a blast as I was invited to the sold out Method Man show at Club Soda. When I got to the venue I was surprised to see so many teenagers (it was an all-ages show) waiting in the line up! Everywhere I turned there was teenagers left and right. At the front of the stage there was a man that looked like he was in his late 50’s representing the timelessness of hip-hop decked out in Wu-Gear. If you’ve been to a Wu show, you know the ritual: Wu-Tang tee’s, Wu-Tang tuques, Signature Method Man shirts with the upside down Wu-Tang symbol and other Wu genre based clothing attire plastered across the joint.

Meth took time to give a tribute to his fellow deceased Wu brother Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Unlike the usual lighters and cellphones in the air Mef told the crowd to get hype to celebrate ODB’s life and legacy. The crowd rapped along to “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” and Mef and his right hand man Streetlife performed “Brooklyn Zoo” rapping bar per bar back and forth. As the crowd chanted ODB, Meth let his emotions out putting his head down with his hand covering his face.

Near the end of the show Method Man started doing front flips into the crowd as he surfed through the audience and even standing on top of people and rapping. The highlight performance was most definitely his self titled track “Method Man” where he shows off his comedic lyrical ability.

I consider it one of the illest show I have ever seen. The energy was just overwhelming.
