Tech N9ne Reacts to Kendrick Lamar’s Verse “My N**a Killed it!” [Elementality Exclusive]

In an exclusive interview with Elementality during the Montréal stop of his Canadian tour, Tech N9ne praised Kendrick Lamar for bringing competitiveness back into the rap game.

“That’s my boy Kendrick Lamar! Just raising the bar even more, pushing people to be better, that’s what it’s supposed to be about”, he said. Our laid-back video interview with the midwest chopper was conducted in his Strange Music tour bus

Last week, the Compton rapper called out a long list of young successful rappers and inspired a bunch of others to “get lyrical” on a Big Sean song called “Control” featuring Kendrick and Jay Electronica. Our article on the “control-versy” details how Hip-Hop has responded at this point.

“I’ve got his back, man. It’s a friendly competition. If people’s feathers are ruffled by it, that means the shoe fits”, explained Tech. He adds: “If you can’t compete with him, then don’t say nothing!”

August 13th was indeed a memorable day for the Kansas City rapper known for wearing face-paint and rapping at rapid-fire speed.

“I was in bed and my publicist sent me an e-mail saying ‘you gotta check this out’. So I listen to Big Sean, I was like…OK. Then I listen to Kendrick and my face goes…Whoa !”

Both artists collaborated on a song together on Tech N9ne’s new “Something Else” album. The song is called “Fragile”. Kendrick and Tech are both considered outsiders in the rap game for different reasons. They are both dismissed by the mainstream as “backpacker rappers” though their music incorporates many styles and influences.

“Something Else” features collaborations from a very wide palette of artists, from rap heavyweights T-Pain & Danny Brown to rock legends Serj Tankian (System of a Down) and The Doors (you heard right).

Tech N9ne is currently on his Canadian tour and performed last night in Montréal at Cabaret Underworld packed with dedicated fans, wearing Strange Music merch. Strange Music is Tech’s independent label, alongside artists like Mayday!, Krizz Kaliko and Stevie Stone.

Tech N9ne was performing live at Cabaret Underworld on August 16th, 2013. This was his third stop in Montréal. Our exclusive Tech N9ne interview will be available next week online. Subscribe to our Youtube channel to be the first to see it.
