DJ Nu-Mark spins the top off the Blue Dog Motel

DJ Nu-Mark of the famous Jurassic 5 paid a visit to the Blue Dog Motel and put his talents on display last Wednesday at Elementality’s new weekly Back 2 Basics jam.

Bringing his California cool to our frozen St Lawrence Lowland, Nu-Mark electrified the crowd that was crammed in the small Main street bar. He wasn’t done spinning and the crowd kept begging for more music.

Disk jockeys are usually like bubble boys — into themselves and unaware of social cues. Not Nu-Mark. The OG interacted with the boozers and revelled with them. His music tore them away from the pretty stony-faced barmaids’ and onto the dance floor. They danced frantically as if they didn’t know what had just hit them. It almost felt like attending a surprise concert from a world-renowned artist.

He remixed old school classic hip hop hits to the point of reinvention. The virtuosity of his audio acrobatics gave many fans a whiplash.

Despite his relative fame, Nu-Mark behaved like an average joe after his set. He hung out for a while, grabbed a drink and posed for photos. Although he had just tore the roof off the place, he didn’t act any differently than regular DJs. Like a man punching his card, just another night on the job. If it were possible, I don’t think he would have ever come down from that booth.

  1. The photographer took a lot of photos at this event (including some of my group). Do you know where I can get the rest of the photos from this event?
